ChopValue UK Celebrates Grand Opening of Flagship Microfactory for Carbon Negative Product Manufacturing
VANCOUVER, BC – June 14, 2024 – ChopValue UK is proud to announce the grand opening of its flagship Microfactory in Liverpool, officially launching during The Great Big Green Week, UK's largest community event to tackle climate change. The company is introducing the innovative technology to the region, using under-utilised resources — discarded chopsticks — to be engineered into closed loop solutions for homes, restaurants, and businesses.
“We are paving the way for a greener future, where not only waste streams are transformed into valuable products made to last, but we can also source, produce, and distribute locally in our communities,” shared Tom Davies, Managing Director of ChopValue UK. “I am grateful for the platform my career has provided me and am committed to lead by example. Educating others on subjects like the importance of sustainability and responsible manufacturing is my priority, with the goal of ensuring upcoming generations have the same resources we have been fortunate to have.”
The ChopValue global network has proudly diverted over 160 million chopsticks from the landfill while storing 7,890,770kg of CO2 emissions, and the Liverpool Microfactory’s operation is poised to contribute significantly to the growing impact. ChopValue UK has already collected close to 5 million chopsticks to date. The company is also setting a precedent as the first location to operate an electric van for community collection.
“It’s our mission to leave no chopstick behind and given the extraordinary amount that are sent to landfill every year, there’s a huge job to be done,” adds Neil Sang, UK Director of ChopValue UK. “ChopValue UK not only looks to turn waste into resource, but instil the importance of circularity and sustainability into the communities our Microfactory operates in. To launch in Liverpool has been a dream and we’ve relished training up our new employees, showing them a new set of green carpentry skills.”
ChopValue UK aims to create a new standard using urban harvested resources for local manufacturing, a crucial initiative given the UK's timber shortages and import needs growing. The first of many locations planned, ChopValue Liverpool unveiled their manufacturing facility, where the transformation of urban-harvested chopsticks begins. From sanitization through immense heat, steam, and pressure, to being engineered into tabletops, wall features, and serveware, guests witnessed firsthand how every product makes a positive difference. The company intends to empower individuals and businesses to make a tangible impact as they play a crucial role in the circular economy.
