Director of Finance (Vancouver)
We are seeking a Director of Finance to lead the finance and accounting team for a group of companies.
As a member of the leadership team, you will manage internal accounting functions, tax compliance, financial reporting, and operational finance while ensuring systems, processes, and internal controls are scalable and effective.
This role is crucial for ensuring the financial health of the company, guiding decision-making, and supporting overall business objectives through financial expertise and strategic insight.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Accounting & Internal Controls:- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions including bank and balance sheet reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and tax filings.
- Provide high-level oversight of accounting policies, develop new procedures, and implement internal controls to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency.
- Lead the development of scalable financial systems, processes, and controls to support company growth.
- Manage the preparation and audit/review of annual financial statements in compliance with ASPE and IFRS.
- Research technical accounting and tax issues to ensure compliance.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting.
- Oversee the preparation of quarterly financial reports for the Board of Directors and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate the preparation of budgets, long-term forecasts, and analyse financial performance against targets.
- Manage liquidity planning, cash flow, and vendor payments.
- Support budgeting processes.
- Manage banking relationships and approve operational expenses and production purchases.
- Conduct monthly franchisee KPI reviews.
- Support franchisee cash management and budgeting processes.
- Prepare and review Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDD) and franchise agreements.
- Work with tax advisors in filing tax returns for Canada, the US, and international entities in a timely manner.
- Oversee quarterly GST filings, transfer pricing planning, and SR&ED filings.
- Prepare and manage stock option agreements, and administer employee benefits programs, including Chambers benefits.
- Manage employment contract preparations and review payroll processes.
- Oversee onboarding/offboarding documentation for employees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- A bachelor’s degree in business/finance/accounting or a related field.
- Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is highly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a management role.
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles. Knowledge of ASPE and IFRS is required. Knowledge of tax laws with a track record of solving complex tax issues is expected.
- Proven experience in financial planning and analysis, financial reporting, and treasury management.
- Prior experience in increasing the operational effectiveness and efficiency of an organization by designing and improving internal controls and implementing a robust internal control framework.
- Proficiency in scalable financial systems (e.g., accounting software, ERP systems, financial modeling tools).
- Strong leadership and team management skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working collaboratively as well as with autonomy and ownership in a fast-paced environment, taking the initiative to resolve issues.
