GREEN Globe has awarded The Westin Manila its inaugural certification for sustainable management and operations. Located in the Ortigas business district, the five-star property combines premium hospitality with eco-conscious initiatives while welcoming guests and their pets.
General Manager Alexander Dietzsch said, “We are all very proud to achieve our first Green Globe certification. This recognition affirms our efforts to improve sustainability. We will continue to develop initiatives to conserve energy and resources.”
Since opening in 2023, the hotel has followed a sustainability management plan led by a Green Team. Energy efficiency is prioritized through LED and CFL lighting, motion sensors in stairwells, and EV charging stations. To conserve water, low-flow aerators were installed in guest bathrooms, while toilet cistern levels were adjusted in 2024.
Waste management efforts include food waste reduction, recycling, composting, and partnerships such as ChopValue, which upcycles bamboo chopsticks into functional displays. Chefs also advance Marriott’s Serve 360 program with innovations like One Dish Wonders, serving curated meals to minimize food waste, and Green Mondays, promoting local plant-based ingredients.
The hotel supports community and environmental causes, including Haribon’s reforestation drive, Save the Children Philippines, Brigada Eskwela, and a Culinary Showcase mentorship program for aspiring chefs.
