MVP Expands Manufacturing Platform with Successful Hemp Biocomposite Production Trials With Legacy Fibers

Commercial production of the first hemp biocomposite products expected to begin in Fall 2026, expanding the product range as part of MVP's portfolio

VANCOUVER, BC — August 26, 2026 — Microfactory Venture Platform (MVP), together with its Pioneer Partner Legacy Fibers, has reached a major technical milestone with the successful completion of its first production trials using agricultural hemp byproducts. This validates the adaptability of its modular manufacturing platform across an entirely new resource stream.


The trial used hemp byproducts generated through Legacy Fibers' existing production of hemp for bedding, mats, and hempcrete. MVP and Legacy Fibers successfully produced hemp biocomposite material using both an in-house developed automated production line and a semi-automated production setup, marking an important step from technology development toward commercial production. 

MVP's decentralized manufacturing approach allows its production systems to be adapted to different locally available resources. Depending on product and performance requirements, the resulting material is composed of approximately 6–10% water-based resin and 90–94% hemp biocomposite.

MVP has established its initial hemp product portfolio for applications in architecture and commercial furniture. As testing and data collection continue, early laboratory results show promising mechanical properties across different material densities. For high-performance furniture and semi-structural applications, initial samples have reached densities above 1,150 kg/m³ and a modulus of elasticity (MOE) of 15,800 N/mm². This high-density material can be formed into three-dimensional shapes, creating potential applications in molded furniture such as seating and curved components. A lower-density material profile is also being evaluated for non-structural architectural applications, including appearance products and acoustic panels. This range demonstrates the potential to tune the hemp biocomposite's density and performance characteristics to meet different product requirements.



For Legacy Fibers, the partnership creates an additional value stream from agricultural byproducts generated through its existing operations. Instead of leaving these materials underutilized, the hemp byproducts can now become the resource for a new line of commercial-grade products, creating an opportunity to capture additional economic value.

As this production scales, it can support new local jobs and create a stronger economic base around hemp processing in our community.



MVP and Legacy Fibers are now moving toward commercial production, with manufacturing scheduled to begin in Fall 2026. The first commercial deliveries are expected to reach MVP's existing customer network by the end of the year, followed by broader market availability in 2027.

The Legacy Fibers partnership demonstrates how MVP's Microfactory model can be applied to new resource streams, establishing a scalable approach to transforming locally available, underutilized resources into commercial-grade materials and products. As MVP expands its Microfactory network, this model can be adapted to new resources, markets, and applications.
