With the goal to become the world’s greenest airport, YVR is the first airport in Canada to commit to net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

To support this ambitious target, the new Pier D expansion was built with operational efficiencies top of mind to reduce YVR’s impact on the environment. As you move through Pier D, keep your eyes peeled for the following key environmental highlights:

Energy Efficiency

To create an energy efficient space, Pier D was built with a heat recovery system to help circulate air and reduce the heating and cooling demands within the building. In Pier D, heat is recovered from washroom exhaust, electrical rooms and building relief air (intake airflow) to lower our carbon footprint.

Carbon Reduction

In support of emissions reduction goals for the aviation industry, YVR is supporting airline partners with the following:

Line of eGSE charging stations for ground handler vehicles

30 electric ground support equipment (eGSE) charging stations at various airside locations making a total of 94 charging stations available

Ecobus pulling up to a line of ecobus charging stations

8 ecobus charging stations for electric buses

      Waste Reduction
